10 Things You Should Know About YELLOW DOG STUDIO 

1. Yellow Dog Studio (YDS) is a working multi-media studio specializing in rustic urban and industrial influenced furniture and mixed-media art.
2. YDS, founded in 2008, is one of the founding studios of The Factory Art Studios Collective located in the AB Seals Bldg. (former Brown Shoe factory) in Sullivan, IL. Established in 2011 The Factory Art Studios is a collective of 20+ artists/studios working on the 2^nd floor of the 83 year old building.
3. The furniture and art from YDS consists primarily of reclaimed, recycled, and discarded materials from all over central Illinois. New materials can and will be used when necessary or when custom materials are requested.
4. The work that comes out of Yellow Dog Studio is influenced by many artists and mentors as well as family members along the way. It is my belief that we are bits and pieces of every person we have ever come in contact with. We purge and discard unwanted baggage yet are influenced nonetheless. I admire a wide range of arts and am heavily influenced by pop, abstract, street, collage and assemblage. Jasper Johns, H.C. Westerman, Jackson Pollack, and my father are among my biggest influences.
5. The name Yellow Dog Studio came from two of our four-legged family, Hoover and Nevin.  Hoover was a Yellow Lab mix my wife adopted in St. Louis in 1994. We lost Hoover to cancer in 2005 and part of my wife’s therapy was to become involved in Genesis Animal Rescue. Through Genesis we have fostered hundreds of dogs in our home…and only adopted three of our own. Our youngest …and largest is a Yellow Lab/Great Pyrenees mix named Nevin.  Hence the name Yellow Dog Studio. Ironically, Nevin dislikes the noise of the studio and prefers not to be here.
6. After 30 years of woodworking, cabinet making, and construction, Yellow Dog Studio has given me an outlet that combines the creativity of art, the passion of building, and the satisfaction of living or contributing to a greener lifestyle.
7. Custom orders are welcome at Yellow Dog Studio. Materials provided by the customer such as a cherished piece of family history can be incorporated to achieve a desired affect or to memorialize a piece of art or furniture.
8. Yellow Dog Studio is proud to be an integral part of Sullivan Area Arts. SAArts is a community group/project established by and for the Sullivan and Central Illinois Arts community providing all with an avenue to advance the arts in this area.
9. Yellow Dog Studio is open to the public Monday through Thursday 10-6, Friday 10-8, and Saturday 10-5.
10. This year Yellow Dog Studio was honored with the Small Business of the Year Award at the 2012 Annual Chamber of Commerce Awards banquet.
